COALITION OF INDEPENDENTS
Energy Reform
We interviewed local and international stakeholders and experts. We met with the union. Our international consultant runs several power plants in the US. They have built or consulted on power plants around the world. Our consultant was also BECs foreign consultant in the late 90’s who was hired to evaluate the generation and business needs of BEC. The consultant quickly saw that BPL’s biggest issue was corruption. The consultant made recommendations that were ignored and shortly after BEC made a corrupt deal with Alstom SA.
Disclaimer: Myself along with strategic partners made a purchase offer for BEC in 2019 to Purchase BEC, pay off its $650M debt, replace all powers and run them under ground. We also proposed to change to alternative fuels and quickly transition BEC to fully renewable. We believed that this was the deal breaker. At this time we also met with the then Union President to get union buy in and see how the workers could become part owners. MOW Desmond Banister responded to us in writing on August 15th 2019 but it seemed that there was no interest in allowing BPL to switch to renewable in the near term.
The Bahamas is in a state of emergency as it relates to our Electricity supply. Electricity in this country is not reliable, is ridiculously expensive and is plagued with corruption. The unreliability and cost of electricity is a critical barrier to business. The industry achieved international embarassement in 2016 when a former FNM Fox Hill candidate Fred Ramsey was convicted for Bribery and conspiracy in the Alstom SA/BEC bribery scandal. Just two years prior it was exposed that PLP MP Leslie Millar who was chairman of BEC had a light bill of $239K while Bahamians lights were being mercilessly disconnected while Mr Miller made statements to the public like “your ass ga sweat.” Leslie paid a part of the Bill with $100K in cash. Further the entire FNM board at BPL was fired. The government promised an investigation but nothing has been done to date.
Much of the reason for the high cost of electricity is due to corruption. Much of your electricity bill is oil. The oil industry is controlled by companies owned by prominent members and financiers of the FNM and the PLP. They operate like a mafia. They benefit from the sale, storage and shipment of the oil. BPL is currently required to pay their oil bill upfront whether use it or not during the period
This corrupt PLP and FNM unified mafia buys used generators in order to make money on the purchase of generator parts.
The said mafia is also the reason the industry is resisting a move to renewable energy. The company and the country would save nearly half a billion dollars in electricity costs.
The COI is greatly concerned for the welfare and wellbeing of Electrical workers. They have suffered greatly under both PLP and FNM administrations. Under the previous administration members were mistreated and verbally abused publicly by the PLP chairman of the company who exposed they salaries and called BEC staff “Blood Suckers.” It is time for a new regime that will put Bahamians first.
It is time to Evolutionize Electricity in the Bahamas
We are embarking on an ambitious plan to not only put an end to the Electricity Mafias strangle hold on the Bahamian people by transitioning to renewable energy production. But we will transform the Bahamas from an energy consumer to an International Energy Conglomerate!
BPL’s Renewable plan
In 2016 the Bahamas signed on to the Paris Accord. This prompted URCA forced BPL to present a plan to take the Bahamas to 30% renewable by 2030. BPL pesented a plan that was rejected and was ordered to present another. BPL took another 3 years to present another plan in 2019. This was a 5 year plan to begin the process of moving toward the target. BPL said that “Over the next 5 years The Bahamas should plan and pursue 119.08MW of solar PV in New Providence (73.7MW) and the Family Islands (45.38MW) at a cost of $203.7M supplemented with 10.96MW of 4-hour battery energy storage at a cost of $25.3M. The total spend would be almost a quarter a $Billion what caused me to become suspicious was the next line item where BEC said that this would only bring savings of $3.7M per year.
BPL’s fuel expense is $30M/ Month. They are bringing solar power equivolent to almost 3 times the Blue Hill rd plant removing mainstanence and fuel cost but only saving 3.7M?
The oil Mafia is aware that we must adhere to the Paris accord. They know oil is oil. So they are finding a way to still benefit from energy generation. If either the PLP or FNM were to win the election they will sign a private agreement to allow the oligarchs to own the solar generation and let BPL by the Elec from them. This is why there will be little savings by going solar.
We must save our nation and future generations from this evil Mafia that will make us pay for what is free: the sun.
To accomplish our goals we have met with experts and stakeholders. We have met with the BEC Union. We have taken on international consultants with experience in major electrical projects.
We have made contact with international stakeholders including Tesla.
How will we pay for this?
Use programs available
A program is available that put aside billions of dollars for countries like the Bahamas.
Carbon Credits
We will implement the carbon credits program under the Paris agreement. This will allow us to access funding to finance renewable energy projects. See Video Below
The Bahamas has millions of acres of forest that could be worth billions of dollars in carbon credits.
OUR MANGOVES ARE WORTH BILLIONS
The purpose of this Reform Plan is as follows:
Currently (BPL) Bahamas Power and Light Company has a published maximum installed capacity of 438 (MW), Megawatts covering New Providence and the Family of Islands.
BPLs Station A, which is located at Clifton Pier was completed at a cost of 96.8 million dollars ALONE. An addition to the national debt which was incurred to implement a system of energy production that is NOT in keeping with the GLOBAL TRENDS & INTERNATIONAL ENDORSEMENTS towards Alternative & Green Energy Systems. The Station A uses seven Wӓrtsilӓ 50DF engines with an individual power rating of 18.85 Mega Watts. Fossil Fuel Burners that collectively are capable of producing 131.95 Mega Watts. This national energy design is going in the Wrong Direction!
It is believed that 50% of the energy produced by the current systems are lost due to lamp pole cable runs?
Businesses will still pay.
How is that possible? We are moving to renewable energy sources.

Why would we commit ourselves as a Nation for another 20 years to Fossil Fuel Technologies and its many debilitating appendages and toxic biproducts especially when we have ample access to a readily available source of energy for FREE due to our global positioning?
There are Many Green Energy Innovations & Initiatives that can be locally utilized to facilitate a NATIONAL NEUTRAL CARBON FOOTPRINT while costing our country Absolutely….. NOTHING!
There are several Green Energy options that we are exploring. We have gone through each of these options with our local & international experts:
1.Solar System Grid Configuration
The logistical position of the Bahamas near the equator with direct sunlight coverage for most of the year makes this the best National Primary Source of Energy.
2. Heliostat Systems
This System uses a reflective array to send heat to a given location to heat water and use the steam created to run the Electricity Generator. It can best be used to power large Industrial Operations that are zoned in remote areas such as Agricultural Companies and Textile Companies that may be fully outfitted with electronic infrastructure, hardware and vehicles.
3. Tidal Power
With the cooperation of the tides with the coastal generator configuration of this technology in a strategic place where it is at least 5 Meters or 16.50feet Deep at Low Tide (i.e., The Glass Bridge Eleuthera), we can effectively produce substantial energy output.
4. Wave Power Stations
This energy system uses the consistent, persistent movement of the waves to generate power and can effectively be utilized by remote offices, that may be logistically positioned to benefit from the offerings of this type of green energy.
5. Hydro Power
The natural eb and flow coupled with Strategically placed near mangroves, water current diversions may be set up by creation of artificial channels to facilitate access to this potential energy source. (Areas near the Abaco and Andros Mangroves)
Which System will we use?
We plan on using Solar Arrays & a Nationalized Grid configuration as the primary system to acquire energy to supply the whole nation with clean quantifiable solar energy.
How will the Local Citizens Benefit from this?

- BPL currently uses 480 Million annually to supply the Bahamas with suitable energy
- Out of that number, 360 Million is used for FUEL cost!!! That speaks volumes!!
Businesses will still pay.

- If the Solar Systems production exceeds the homes electrical needs, the excess energy created will be fed back into the National Power Grid.
- When this happens, the producing household will receive a credit or issue of monetized value of the energy sent back into the grid from the Utility Company. This check can be used for any purpose the recipient deems necessary. The more the excess in power production that is sent to the Grid, the larger the Solar Credit.

To accomplish this the government will set the standard and lead by example:

- This includes government offices and schools

- All Government Parking Lots will be lit by Solar Powered LED Lights.
- Energy Timers will be placed on every Government Building to more efficiently manage the energy Needs and Savings
- All Governmental Vehicles Inventory Categories will be Electric

Australia is one country that has done just that. They have engaged in the production of power in the Australian Outback and have set up the infrastructures needed to sell and send this power to Singapore which is over 4000 kilometer or 3,106 miles away. Watch this video
